Jelly Flower
Jelly Flower
What is looking like an exobiotic, a plant from a distant Earth-like planet, is actually a mouthpart from a Cyanea Capillata. If you don’t recognise it, the reason might be, that you don’t want to take a closer look at Cyanea, when you meet it at the beach. Lions Mane jelly is the common name for this stinging jellyfish. We have always been fascinated by these fragile survivors, which swam the oceans for eons. This mouth part is from one of our first “real scientific commissions” for the German aquarium Ozeaneum in Stralsund back in 2008. The silicone mould we use for this cast was made over a clay sculpture, which is is hard to imagine these days, where we make everything on the computer.
The flower for your extraterrestrial garden is mounted on a base of stainless steel and does not need water.
