It’s happening again – mushroom spores, carried by the wind, have spread all the way to North Zealand, where Ågalleriet is being “Infested.” The first time, Infested took over Galleri Format and Rune Fjord Studio. The second time, it settled at Arnestedet on Vesterbro in Copenhagen. The third iteration of the Infested exhibition opens on January 10, 2025. Once again, the exhibition consists of sculptures that explore life, death, and resurrection. New bizarre mushroom sculptures – resembling a cross between a blowfly and a plant – thrust their disgusting fruiting bodies up in a divine “garden” of marvelous and horrific mushroom-like organisms – some transparent, others with dead, opaque surfaces. There are also infected eggs, bones, and skulls made of ceramic, bronze, and resin. But, in a new twist, we are also exhibiting photographs. Mushroom spores have been blown all the way to Bjørnaryd in southern Sweden, where large fruiting bodies bloom in a haunted house, in the vast forests, and disturbingly close to idyllic red Swedish houses. Picturesque images with an ominous undertone.
